Writing the Summary Essay

A summary essay should be organized so that others can understand the source or evaluate
your comprehension of it. The following format works well:

Writing the Summary Essay
a. The introduction (usually one paragraph)--
1. Contains a one-sentence thesis statement that sums up the main point of the source.
This thesis statement is not your main point; it is the main point of your source. Usually, though, you have to write this statement rather than quote it from the source text. It is a one-sentence summary of the entire text that your essay summarizes.
2. Also introduces the text to be summarized:
(i) Gives the title of the source (following the citation guidelines of whatever style sheet you are using);
(ii) Provides the name of the author of the source;
(ii) Sometimes also provides pertinent background information about the author of the source or about the text to be summarized.
The introduction should not offer your own opinions or evaluation of the text you are summarizing.

Writing the Summary Essay
b. The body of a summary essay (one or more paragraphs):
This paraphrases and condenses the original piece. In your summary, be sure that you--
1. Include important data but omit minor points;
2. Include one or more of the author’s examples or illustrations (these will bring your summary to life);
3. Do not include your own ideas, illustrations, metaphors, or interpretations. Look upon yourself as a summarizing machine; you are simply repeating what the source text says, in fewer words and in your own words. But the fact that you are using your own words does not mean that you are including your own ideas.

c. There is customarily no conclusion to a summary essay.
When you have summarized the source text, your summary essay is finished. Do not add your own concluding paragraph unless your teacher specifically tells you to.

Holidays Korean New Years

 There are actually two Korean New Years. This is because Koreans go by two calenders; one being the same people use in the West, and the other being the lunar calender. The Korean New Years based on the Western calender is similar to our New Years in the United States. It is a big national holiday in Korea as well, and occurs on January 1st just like it does here.
Korean Culture

During this holiday, many relatives get together to share time together and talk. In Korea, there are some old traditions that some people will still follow. One is to visit the oldest member of the family and bow toward them to show respect and to wish them a long life (this would occur on New Years Eve). The following day on January 1st people will pay respect to ancestors by offering food and wine.

This ceremony is called Jaesa. At the beginning of the ceremony, the names of the ancestors are pinned to a board. The oldest family members bows and offers the wine to the ancestors who have passed away. Then, the names are burned. Later in the day, relatives talk about old times and eat food. The traditional food usually eaten on New Years Day is Duk Gook, a type of soup. Kimchi is always present.
Korean Culture

The other New Years Day is the Lunar New Years. It is usually around February. People wear the traditional clothes called Hanbok. It also is a day relatives may get together. People will exchange gifts, and the children will definitely be happy because they are usually given money on Lunar New Years. Sometimes the Lunar New Years and the Solar New Years are pretty common and involve similar traditions.

The main idea behind it all is to wish everyone a happy new year, good luck in the new year, same as everywhere else in the world, as well as pay respect to those who have passed away. If you plan on visiting Korea during either of these times, book ahead!

The effects of using facebook

Facebook is very famous. Facebook is one of the free social networking where we can chat with many people in this world. Many people like using facebook but sometimes it can change people’s mental health because facebook has negative effects for our mental health, such as ; it can less the time to sleep, make stress, and damage your physics.
The effects of using facebook

The first negative effect of using facebook is to less the time to sleep. It will happen to you if in the night, you are still busy to give comment your friend’s status in facebook. Losing the time for sleeping in the night, it can make you sleepy in the morning. So you will be difficult to concentrate when you study in the school. If you always waste your time only to open facebook in front of your laptop or computer before sleeping, your physical condition will be weak because it can make you addicted to open facebook.

The second negative effect is to make you stress. For example; if you have boyfriend and your boyfriend make affair and always chat with the other girls in facebook when you are opening your boyfriend’s facebook, it will make you stress. Although, it is not in the virtual life, but Sometimes, this case can make you stress because of your boyfriend’s relationship in facebook.

The last negative effect of using facebook is to damage your physics because you always face in front of your computer to open facebook everyday. Also, if you always do it in very long time, it can cause eyesore, headache, and painful back. These deceases usually come in who often use laptop or computer for opening facebook in many hours because you often waste your time to face it everyday.

As a result, I can say that facebook is sometimes dangerous for you especially for your mental health because in other hand, it has many negative effects but if your activities to use facebook are only to sign in, to add friends, to give comment and just to get fun in little time, so it will not be dangerous for you because it depends on the user.
